Early Intervention Project
The Early Intervention Project is designed to focus on the correlation between substance abuse and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) for
ODADAS Certified Treatment Facilities in Franklin County. The general purpose is to offer knowledge about STIs and testing for individuals who
have participated in at-risk behavior with the goal of reducing morbidity and mortality.
Presentations are designed to be interactive in a non-formal and non-traditional format. Comprehensive presentations include modes of STI
transmission, signs and symptoms, prevention and risk-reduction of
disease, as well as treatment options. Patients not only receive the knowledge about STIs but the tools to incorporate those skills in order to improve their
general well-being and quality of life . In addition, presentations are gender-tailored for particular groups.
Columbus Public Health (formerly known as the Columbus Health Department)
collaborates with CompDrug Corporation by providing medical staff for
testing. Testing is offered for gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, Human
Immunodeficiency Virus and Hepatitis C Virus through urine screens for
gonorrhea and chlamydia and blood-draws for the latter three. Individuals
who test positive for an infection are then provided treatment or
appropriate referrals through Columbus Public Health.
