Senior Sense


Actively Involving Older Adults In Community Prevention Efforts



Senior Sense, a national and international prevention program, offers positive approaches to the important issues faced by today's older adults. Focusing on the experiences and wisdom gained throughout a lifetime, Senior Sense promotes the concept that all stages of life can be lived richly and fully.

Senior Sense Programs
  • Heighten awareness of the widespread drug misuse and alcohol abuse among older adults.
  • Encourage self-awareness concerning personal attitudes about aging.
  • Promote positive programming for prevention activities with older adults.
  • Advocate strategies for turning adult volunteers into an effective prevention force intragenerationally and cross generationally.


  • Programs Offered
  • SENIOR SENSE:
    • An educational presentation for healthcare professionals focusing on at risk behavior of older adults concerning their use of medications and alcohol.
  • SENIOR SENSE SPEAKS:
    • An educational program that trains older adults in safe medication practices and warns them of their risk for addiction.
  • SENIORS AND YOUTH - GENERATIONS GROWING TOGETHER:
    • A volunteer project that joins older adults with preschool and early elementary youngsters.
  • SENIORS SHARING:
    • A volunteer prevention project that brings older adults together with their peers to discuss the problems of medication misuse and alcohol abuse.
  • GENERATIONS SHARING TOGETHER:
    • A program utilizing volunteers to record life journals; capturing the memories and traditions that shape our lives.
