The Winner's Choice Camps

Each individual's experience at a Winner's Choice Camp is not only informative and educational, but also personal. The Camp is designed to impact each participant's self-growth, as well as his or her skills and knowledge through prevention activities.

The personal growth of each participant is enhanced through large group presentations by noted speakers; workshops on topics such as stress management, team building, drama skills and techniques and participation in family groups. The fun activities and overall warm and supportive atmosphere of the camp creates an experience that allows each participant to re-affirm his or her own decision to be drug free and to feel supported by that choice.

The Winner's Choice participants are also inundated with opportunities for learning. During the two speakers, students will learn information on racism and sexism, and how it affects peer pressure among people; and the choices for leadership in everyday situations. Also, in each of the three interactive workshops, students will learn and play at the same time.

The Winner's Choice experience provides participants with a better understanding of the philosophy of the program. This program is a model which can be adapted to the needs of various schools. Those participants who come to a Winner's Choice camp with a program already in place in their school, can apply the skill and knowledge gained from the camp experience to evaluating their current activities. Those participants who come to camp looking for new ideas, leave with a foundation for enhancing their own program suited for their school.

The Winner's Choice Camp is a joint project with CompDrug, Youth to Youth and The Franklin County Safe and Drug-Free Schools Consortium.
