Your Records Have Special Privacy Protections
Because CompDrug provides substance use disorder treatment, many of our patient records are protected by a federal confidentiality law known as 42 CFR Part 2, in addition to HIPAA.
Part 2 provides special protections for records related to substance use disorder treatment. Federal law limits how these records may be used and disclosed. Part 2 also provides additional protections related to the use of these records in certain legal proceedings.
These privacy protections do not prevent you from requesting access to your own health information.

When Can CompDrug Use or Share My Information?
With your permission, CompDrug may use and share your information when it is needed for:
Treatment
Providing your care and coordinating your treatment with other healthcare providers.
Payment
Billing Medicaid, Medicare, your insurance plan, or another payer for your care.
Healthcare Operations
Activities needed to operate our healthcare services, such as quality improvement, compliance, and care management.
Together, these are called Treatment, Payment, and Healthcare Operations (TPO). A TPO consent allows CompDrug to use and share your Part 2 information for these purposes.
TPO does not mean we can share your records with anyone.
The TPO consent does not give CompDrug permission to release your information to courts, probation/parole, child-welfare agencies, employers, attorneys, or family members. If you want CompDrug to share information with someone outside of TPO, you may need to give us specific permission.
